Quantity: 1 Seed
Rare: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is a rare species in NZ and difficult to source. We carefully source quality seeds from trusted growers here and around the world, often importing small quantities that are not readily available locally.
Seed Type: Fresh Rose Apple seeds.
Origin: Southeast Asia.
Growth Habit: Evergreen fruit tree reaching approximately 6–15 metres at maturity, with glossy foliage and a rounded canopy.
Germination: Sow fresh seeds 10–20 mm deep in a free-draining seed-raising mix. Keep warm (22–30°C) and consistently moist. Germination typically occurs within 2–6 weeks.
Climate: To get a head start, or if you are in colder climates, start growing your seeds indoors so they are well established before summer. In the North Island, Rose Apple grows best in warm, sheltered, frost-free areas. In the South Island, it is best grown in a greenhouse, conservatory or large container that can be protected over winter.
Fruit: Produces pale yellow to cream fruit with crisp, juicy flesh and a light rose-like aroma.
Flowers: Produces showy, fluffy cream-white flowers that attract bees and beneficial pollinators.
Fruiting: Typically begins producing fruit within 3–6 years from seed under good growing conditions.
Care: Prefers full sun, fertile free-draining soil, regular watering and protection from frost while young.
