Quantity: 1 Seed
Rare: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is a rare species in NZ and difficult to source. We carefully source quality seeds from trusted growers here and around the world, often importing small quantities that are not readily available locally.
Seed Type: Fresh Egyptian Guava seeds.
Origin: Central America.
Growth Habit: Fast-growing evergreen fruit tree reaching approximately 3–8 metres at maturity. Ideal for home gardens, orchards and large containers while young.
Germination: Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours before sowing 5–10 mm deep in a free-draining seed-raising mix. Keep warm (22–30°C) and consistently moist. Germination typically occurs within 2–8 weeks.
Climate: To get a head start, or if you are in colder climates, start growing your seeds indoors so they are well established before summer. In the North Island, Egyptian Guava grows well outdoors in a sunny, sheltered position. In the South Island, it grows best in a greenhouse, warm microclimate or large container that can be protected from heavy frosts.
Fruit: Produces round to oval fruit with aromatic flesh that may be white, pink or cream coloured. The flavour is sweet, tropical and highly fragrant.
Flowers: Produces beautiful white flowers with masses of fluffy stamens that attract bees and other beneficial pollinators.
Fruiting: Typically begins producing fruit within 2–5 years from seed under good growing conditions.
Care: Prefers full sun, fertile free-draining soil and regular watering while establishing. Feed during the growing season to encourage healthy growth and heavy fruit production.
