We carefully source premium-quality seeds from trusted growers in New Zealand and around the world. Due to New Zealand's strict import requirements, international freight costs and biosecurity regulations, these seeds are not commonly available locally. Be among the few growers in New Zealand cultivating this unique variety.

Seed Type: Fresh Ylang Ylang seeds.

Origin: Southeast Asia.

Growth Habit: Fast-growing evergreen tree reaching approximately 8–20 metres at maturity. Can be pruned to maintain a smaller size, making it suitable for home gardens and large containers while young.

Germination: Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours before sowing 10–15 mm deep in a free-draining seed-raising mix. Keep warm (25–30°C) and consistently moist. Germination typically occurs within 3–8 weeks, although some seeds may take longer.

Climate: To get a head start, or if you are in colder climates, start growing your seeds indoors so they are well established before summer. In the North Island, Ylang Ylang grows best in warm, sheltered, frost-free locations with rich, well-drained soil. In the South Island, it is best grown in a greenhouse, conservatory or large container that can be protected from cold temperatures during winter.

Flowers: Produces elegant drooping yellow-green flowers with long, narrow petals. The flowers are harvested around the world to produce the famous Ylang Ylang essential oil used in perfumes and aromatherapy.

Fragrance: The flowers have an intensely sweet, rich floral fragrance with notes of jasmine, banana, neroli and tropical blossoms. Their intoxicating perfume has made Ylang Ylang one of the world's most valuable fragrance plants.

Flowering: Typically begins flowering within 3–5 years from seed under good growing conditions.

Care: Prefers full sun to partial shade, fertile free-draining soil and regular watering while establishing. Feed during the growing season to encourage vigorous growth and abundant flowering. Protect young plants from frost and strong winds.
