Escarlate Jaboticaba Seeds

Grow one of the most sought-after jaboticaba varieties from seed. Escarlate Jaboticaba is a rare hybrid prized for its exceptionally fast growth, heavy crops and delicious sweet fruit with a rich tropical flavour. Unlike many traditional jaboticabas, Escarlate is known for fruiting at a younger age, making it a favourite among collectors and home growers. These fresh seeds are ideal for growers wanting to raise this outstanding fruit tree from seed.

Rare Rating: Extremely Rare ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
We carefully source premium-quality seeds from trusted growers in New Zealand and around the world. Due to New Zealand's strict import requirements, international freight costs, and biosecurity regulations, these seeds are not commonly available locally. Be among the few growers in New Zealand cultivating this unique variety.

Seed Type: Fresh Escarlate Jaboticaba seeds.

Origin: Brazil.

Growth Habit: Slow to moderate-growing evergreen fruit tree reaching approximately 3–6 metres at maturity. Ideal for home gardens, edible landscapes and large containers.

Germination: Sow fresh seeds 10–20 mm deep in a free-draining seed-raising mix. Keep warm (22–28°C) and consistently moist but not waterlogged. Germination typically occurs within 3–8 weeks.

Climate: To get a head start, or if you are in colder climates, start growing your seeds indoors so they are well established before summer. In the North Island, Escarlate Jaboticaba grows well outdoors in a warm, sheltered position with protection from strong winds and afternoon heat. In the South Island, it is best grown in a greenhouse, conservatory or warm frost-free microclimate, or in a large container that can be protected during winter.

Fruit: Produces medium-sized glossy deep red to purple fruit with sweet, juicy translucent flesh and an excellent balance of sweetness and acidity. The fruit grows directly from the trunk and branches, creating a spectacular display.

Flowers: Produces clusters of delicate white fluffy flowers directly on the trunk and branches, attracting bees and other beneficial pollinators.

Fruiting: Under excellent growing conditions, Escarlate Jaboticaba can begin producing fruit in as little as 3–5 years from seed, significantly earlier than many traditional jaboticaba varieties.

Care: Prefers fertile, slightly acidic, free-draining soil with regular watering. Grows best in full sun to partial shade and benefits from feeding during the growing season. Avoid allowing the soil to completely dry out.

Health Benefits

The fruit is naturally rich in:

  • Vitamin C to support the immune system.
  • Dietary Fibre for healthy digestion.
  • Anthocyanins, powerful antioxidants responsible for the fruit's deep purple colour.
  • Calcium and Potassium to support healthy bones, muscles and heart function.
  • Sweet, juicy fruit that's delicious eaten fresh or used in jams, jellies, juices and desserts.
