We carefully source premium-quality seedlings from trusted growers in New Zealand, ensuring healthy, vigorous plants ready to establish in your garden.
Plant Type: Healthy Pomegranate (Punica granatum) seedling.
Origin: Middle East and Central Asia.
Growth Habit: Deciduous shrub or small tree reaching approximately 3 to 5 metres at maturity, although it can be maintained at 2 to 3 metres with regular pruning. Excellent for home gardens, hedging and large pots.
Planting: Plant in a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball, plant at the same depth as it was growing in the pot, water thoroughly after planting and apply mulch around the base while keeping it clear of the trunk.
Climate: Young plants should be protected from heavy frosts during their first few winters. In the North Island, Pomegranates thrive outdoors in full sun. In the South Island, plant in a warm, sheltered location or grow in a container that can be moved to a protected area during severe frosts.
Fruit: Produces round fruits with a leathery red skin filled with hundreds of juicy ruby-red edible arils that have a refreshing sweet-tart flavour.
Flowers: Produces striking orange-red flowers throughout late spring and summer that attract bees and other pollinators.
Fruiting: Seedlings typically begin producing fruit within 3 to 5 years, depending on growing conditions.
Care: Prefers full sun, fertile well-drained soil and moderate watering while establishing. Once mature it is highly drought tolerant. Feed with a balanced fruit tree fertiliser in spring and prune lightly after fruiting to maintain shape and encourage new growth.
