Giant Granadilla Seeds (Dried)

Grow the world's largest passionfruit species from seed. Giant Granadilla is a vigorous tropical climbing vine that produces enormous golden fruit, spectacular fragrant flowers and lush green foliage. These dried seeds are ideal for growers wanting to raise this impressive vine from the very beginning.

Seed Quantity: 1 seed
This is a rare species in NZ and difficult to source. We carefully source quality seeds from trusted growers here and around the world, often importing small quantities that are not readily available locally.
Seed Type:
Dried Giant Granadilla seeds.
Origin: Central & South America.

Growth Habit: Vigorous evergreen climbing vine reaching 10–20 metres with support. Perfect for trellises, pergolas, fences and arbours.

Germination: Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours before sowing 5–10 mm deep in a free-draining seed-raising mix. Keep warm (25–30°C) and consistently moist. Germination typically takes 2–8 weeks, although some seeds may take longer.

Climate: Giant granadilla thrives in warm North Island climates. In the South Island it is best grown in a greenhouse where warmth and humidity can be maintained.

Fruit: Produces the world's largest passionfruit, often weighing 1–3 kg. The flesh is sweet, refreshing and melon-like with edible seeds.

Flowers: Large, stunning white and purple tropical flowers that attract bees and other pollinators.

Fruiting: Typically begins producing fruit within 2–4 years from seed under good growing conditions.

Care: Prefers full sun, fertile free-draining soil, regular watering and a sturdy climbing structure.

Health Benefits

The fruit is naturally rich in:

  • Vitamin C to support the immune system.
  • Dietary Fibre for healthy digestion.
  • Potassium which supports heart and muscle function.
  • Antioxidants that help protect cells from oxidative stress.
  • Hydrating, low-fat flesh that's a refreshing addition to smoothies, fruit salads or eaten fresh.
