Cherimoya Seedling

Grow your own Cherimoya, one of the world's most prized tropical fruits, often called the "custard apple" for its incredibly smooth, creamy flesh and sweet flavour with hints of banana, pineapple, mango and vanilla. Supplied as a healthy young seedling, this attractive fruit tree is an excellent choice for home orchards and subtropical gardens.

Quantity: 1 Seedling
Rare Rating: Uncommon ⭐⭐☆☆☆
We carefully source premium-quality seedlings from trusted growers in New Zealand. Cherimoya is not commonly available through local garden centres, making it a unique addition to your edible garden.

Plant Type: Healthy Cherimoya (Annona cherimola) seedling.

Origin: Andes Mountains of Ecuador and Peru.

Growth Habit: Semi-deciduous fruit tree reaching approximately 4 to 8 metres at maturity, although it can be maintained at 2 to 3 metres with regular pruning. Suitable for home orchards and large containers while young.

Planting: Plant in a sunny, sheltered location with fertile, free-draining soil. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball, plant at the same depth as it was growing in the pot, water thoroughly after planting and apply mulch around the base while keeping it clear of the trunk.

Climate: Protect young plants from frost until well established. In the North Island, Cherimoya grows well outdoors in warm, frost-free areas with full sun. In the South Island, grow in the warmest sheltered position available or in a large container that can be protected during winter.

Fruit: Produces heart-shaped green fruit with creamy white flesh and a rich tropical flavour combining notes of banana, pineapple, mango, papaya and vanilla. The fruit is highly regarded as one of the finest dessert fruits in the world.

Flowers: Produces fragrant greenish-yellow flowers during spring and summer. Hand pollination can improve fruit set where natural pollinators are limited.

Fruiting: Seedlings typically begin producing fruit within 4 to 7 years, depending on growing conditions. Grafted trees usually fruit sooner.

Care: Prefers full sun, fertile well-drained soil and regular watering during the growing season. Feed with a balanced fruit tree fertiliser in spring and summer. Light annual pruning helps maintain shape, improves airflow and encourages productive growth.
